Parameter Used for Comparison
ratio of DNA quantities obtained with reference swab and challenger swab
Summary of Results
COPAN genetics swab was rated as the best swab from a practical point of view by 4 operators; On collars, the Copan swab performed significantly better than the reference swab, whereas no significant differences were observed for the other two challenger swabs; On screwdrivers, no significant differences were observed between reference and any of the challenger swabs; on steering wheels, COPAN swabs performed significantly better and Puritan swabs significantly worse than reference swabs, whereas no difference was observed between reference and Sarstedt swabs; the amounts of DNA detected were significantly dependent on swab type but not on surface type or operator; even though not statistically significant, slight differences could be observed between swab performance depending on the operator
Raised Questions
success rates of COPAN 4N6 swabs in comparison to reference Prionics swabs under "full operational conditions"
Cautionary Remarks
sampling area size n.s. (thus comparisons between substrates might be dependent not only surface type but also on sampling area)
