Individual shedder status and the origin of touch DNA

Forensic science international. Genetics, 2022

Criteria for Shedder Status

As described in Johannessen et al. (2021), doi: 10.1016/j.fsigen.2021.102541: DNA depositions after firmly holding a sterile plastic tube for 30s; categories of high, medium and low shedders according to the DNA strength (total RFU value) and the quality of the profile.

Previous Activities

1.5 h prior to each measurement wash foreheads with soap and water for 15 s, then air-dry; no touching / wearing hats after wash

Summary of Results

strong correlation of DNA amount on hands and face indicate that source of touch DNA is not (only) from hands but from other body parts that are touched/rubbed/scatched

Raised Questions

more knowledge behind DNA shedding status required. How does it behave under certain conditions?
