Profile Quality

full profiles in 29.9% of samples, full/partial profiles in 16.1% of samples, partial profiles in 40."% of samples, no results in 3.8 % of samples

Parameter Used for Comparison

number of Y-STR loci detected, AP test results, p30 test results, cytological staining results

Summary of Results

all samples presented in this study were negative for visual sperm cells but showed positive AP and p30 test results; usable Y-STR profiles were obtained in 86 % of samples, with 56% of these positive results from epithelial fraction samples and 44% of positive results from sperm fraction samples; swabs from the anal region and dried secretion swabs produced the highest percentage of full profiles (possibly due to more extensive cleaning in vaginal and oral regions after sexual assault)

Cautionary Remarks

samples have been stored for 6-12 years prior to Y-STR analysis (storage conditions n.s.) thus properties of cellular material (e.g. regarding behavior in differential lysis) might be altered in comparison to fresh material; background information on casework details (e.g. delay between sexual assault and sampling) not provided
